The Analytics page loads in with all of your consumption and generation data for all of your utilities. On this page, you can interrogate your data to identify trends and anomalies.
There are two main ways you can interact with this page.
- The graph controls panel
- The graph tools section
Let's walk through both of these in detail.
Graph Controls Panel
The graph controls panel is found on the right-hand side of the Analytics page. You can use the panel to change the chart's data, such as the meters and the date period. If you make any changes, you must press the Update button for them to take effect. You can also return the page to its default state by pressing the Reset button.
Chart Type
By default, Surple will generate energy data in bar charts. But, there are other options. Besides bar charts, you can also generate data in the form of a simple line chart. You can also generate heatmaps. These are useful when trying to pinpoint times where consumption was high.
Meters
Clicking this selector will open a list of all your meters. You can tick one meter or several meters depending on your preference. Clicking several will display the combined energy use of all the selected meters.
Date Range
Clicking this selector will open a calendar. You can enter a custom date range or select from the predefined date ranges such as Past Week, Past 30 Days or Past Year.
Data Granularity
Updating the granularity adjusts the date range that each bar on the chart represents. For example, if you looked at a week of data with the granularity set to daily, there would be 7 bars. Each would represent the energy consumption on a single day. Granularity is set automatically based on the length of the period you're looking at, but you can override it. There are a few granularity options to choose from such as half-hourly, daily, monthly and more. Select whichever one you like. Be aware, though, if you choose to display a year of data at half-hourly granularity, the data may be difficult to interpret, and the chart may take longer to generate.
Data Unit
Updates the units that the data on the chart will be displayed in. Options for electricity include kWh, cost and kg of CO2 equivalent. Options for gas are the same but also include m3.
Days
Sometimes you may want to see how your energy consumption changes during the week, or maybe how your energy use on the weekend has changed over time. You can use the Days selector for this.
Graph Tools Section
The graph tools is a row of icons and can be found above the chart to the right. Each icon represents a different feature that you can use to interact with the graph.
Settings
The settings cog allows you to change the name and the colour of datasets presented on the chart, as well as the graph title.
Calculate
This button will allow you to add calculated series to the chart. Currently, Surple can calculate baseload or average for any combination of meters. This option will only appear when looking at half-hourly data or have no data selected on the chart.
Share
The share button creates an energy link that you can share with your colleagues so they can see what you're looking at on their machine. All your colleague needs to do is copy and paste the link into the URL bar, and as long as they have a Surple account, they should see the chart you sent them.
Toggle Expected Consumption
Pressing this icon toggles the expected consumption line and coloured bars displayed on the chart between the states on and off.
Toggle Anomalies
This button toggles the colouring of bars that represent anomalies. Anomalies will only be displayed on the chart at half-hourly granularity. Anomalies are not currently calculated for generation data.
Download
Pressing this button downloads the data currently being displayed in CSV format.
Overlay
Overlays allow you to add additional datasets to the current chart. Overlay options include date period, meter and weather. You can use date overlays to see data from the same meter(s) but with a different date range, for example, to compare February 2019 with February 2018.
Meter overlays allow you to compare the energy consumption of different meters during the same date period.
Weather overlays allow you to visualise temperature, rainfall, cloud cover and wind speed alongside your energy consumption.
Image
This button will download the current chart as a PNG image for use outside of the platform.
Back
The back button takes you back one step to the previous state of the graph.
